Cake, Cookie, Pastries and Dessert Photographer
Photographing a cookie, cake, pastry or dessert is not as simple as it looks. The photographer needs to have a good knowledge of art, layout, taste, texture and colour. The Cake, Cookie or Dessert should be the celebrity of the image. There can be no distracting elements that take away the viewers eye.
Ecommerce Websites use many images of cookies, cakes, pastries, chocolates and desserts, but the most important images they must have are the beauty shots that appear very large and grab the eye of the viewer so that they stay on the website and are more likely to remember your site, bookmark it or place an order.
Print Catalogues, Advertisements and Brochures for your cakes, Photographing a Dessert, Cookie, Pastry or Cake is not as simple cookies, chocolates or dessert photography also need beauty photography, if not more so. Case Study
Granny's Pie Factory 103 School St
East Hartford, CT 06108
Granny’s Pie Factory was founded in 2006 by Joan and Anton Harovas after many years owning a previous business. While Joan was a newcomer to the bakery business, Anton has over 30 years of experience in restaurants, bakeries and ice cream manufacturing, over 20 of which were spent focused on pies. Using this experience they continue to manufacture pies of high quality for sale in their retail store front and to wholesale customers.
In 2008 their son Niko joined the business after graduating from
Together, the family is working towards manufacturing desserts of the highest possible quality and holding their business to the highest ethical standards. It is their goal to produce food that is not only delicious, but food that people can feel good about eating.
Granny's Pie Factory Photoshoot
Niko Harovas of Granny's Pie Factory in East Hartford, Ct wanted to create a new website that would show off his family run business.
He had no idea how time consuming this photoshoot would become, and he also gained some valuable food styling knowledge by seeing and doing! Nicolas also gained some knowledge of the Fine Dining industry as well from our many conversations and took his Father to Alinea in Chicago (his first ever fine dining experience) and is now set to dine at Per Se, Thomas Keller's New York Restaurant.
We set up a 2 day shoot, the first day I would shoot the the Harovas family and the bakery and the second day we would photograph the Pies.
This image of Granny's Pie Factory's signature dish was created on a tight photography budget with no Food Stylist. I sent Niko off to buy some pie plates, table cloths and other accessories. Through trial and error and about and 1 hour of shooting we came up with this image. Nice work Niko, just 24 years old, has his sights set on studying the art of Food Styling!
Testimonial
"Working with Diana did more than produce good results, it was a pleasure. She was friendly, helpful, professional and devoted entirely to providing the best pictures possible for our needs and within our budget. I was immediately impressed by her credentials and in working with her I saw how she had earned them: she was skilled, knowledgeable, clearly knew the industry and how photography fits into it.
While I was clearly pleased with her effectiveness, I was even more pleased with Diana’s working demeanor. She was open to my ideas and knew what needed to be done to get the pictures we wanted. In addition she was not hesitant to voice her professional opinion to make sure that our needs were met to the best of both her and our abilities. I was thrilled with Diana’s work and plan to hire her again for any future photography."
