Food and Restaurant Photography

Food Photography is a passion for me and I have photographed the food of many of the world’s finest chefs, including Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Gordon Ramsay, Charlie Trotter, Tetsuya Wakuda, Nobu and many more. I see food as an art form that is delicious, sexy and very visually stimulating.  Fine dining chefs have a talent to create food porn on the plate, it photographs beautifully.

I really enjoy bringing a Restaurant to life in pictures. All Restaurants need outstanding photography of their menu, interiors and staff. The Restaurant's Photography should be a very important part of the marketing budget. A first time customer will judge your restaurant on the images you present in your marketing and media materials especially if they are browsing the web or advertisments.  I also realize that Restaurant budgets vary and I have created Restaurant Packages to suit most budgets.

Case Study - Le Cirque

Le Cirque needed new photographs of Chef Craig Hopson and his new menu, as well as interiors of the restaurant for their marketing materials.  I had worked with them in the past with Restaurant Insider Magazine and I was very eager to work with them on their photography project.

I decided that I wanted Chef Craig to have some fun with his shoot and advised him to think about his portraits and to find some men’s fashion magazines to get some ideas. We decided we would take some street fashion images around New York and also some in Chef whites so that Le Cirque could have multiple looks to use in various media of their new and talented Chef.

The menu was the next on the agenda. Chef Craig Hopson and the Maccioni family worked together to decide on what dishes would be photographed and it was decided that it would be a mix of Craig’s newest dishes,Sirio’s historical favorites and some desserts. It was a wonderful selection and Craig’s presentation was perfect. It took 2 full days to photograph and a week to select the final images.

Le Cirque New York was designed by Adam Tihany, a well known designer who has created designs for so many well know restaurants around the country and he has been working with the Maccioni family for many, many years, he understands Sirio Maccioni very well and created a restaurant that was an authentic representation of his personality.

I came in to photograph the restaurant, and I too feel a strong connection to the Restaurant. It was one of the first New York restaurants (Le Cirque 2000) I had ever photographed after moving to the USA from Australia, so I had some genuine passion for the place and it was in a new location with a brand new look.  I shot every room including the kitchen which has a wonderful Chef’s table where you can experience dinner in the kitchen where everything is being prepared.

I alway try to take extra shots while I am working with a restaurant. Often kitchen action shots or fun on the fly portraits.
